Public Participation

We believe in the power of civic engagement and the importance of creating a youth-centered ecosystem where young people are empowered to participate in civic life and make their voices heard.

While adults provide support and structure, our mission is to help youth develop the confidence, skills, and agency to advocate for the issues that matter to them. We equip young leaders with the tools to engage in meaningful conversations, influence policies, and contribute to their communities.

Past work

In 2019, SBX, in collaboration with the ACLU, challenged the Youth Accountability Team (YAT) program in Riverside County. This program disproportionately targeted youth of color, leading to unnecessary criminalization. SBX's advocacy resulted in a settlement that reformed the YAT program, addressing systemic issues in the juvenile justice system. This effort underscores SBX's commitment to protecting youth rights and combating the school-to-prison pipeline

SBX engages in year-round educational campaigns locally and statewide to inform and empower communities on key issues. Using diverse outreach strategies like texting, phone banking, email marketing, digital ads, canvassing, and community meetings, we ensure continuous engagement.

A key focus is centering youth in these efforts, as we believe civic engagement is crucial to youth development. By involving young people, we raise awareness, foster understanding, and empower the next generation to drive positive change in their communities.
